Imaging Center Near Clearwater FL: Cost, Wait Times & What to Expect

Clearwater patients can often save on MRI, CT, mammogram, X-Ray, and DEXA by driving 15 minutes south to AMI in Seminole instead of using hospital-based radiology.

If you live in Clearwater and your doctor orders imaging, the first option you hear may be a hospital radiology department. That is not always the fastest or most affordable choice. Advanced Medical Imaging is in Seminole, just south of Clearwater, and many patients drive past hospital-based imaging because they want transparent pricing, easier parking, and faster outpatient scheduling.

AMI is located at 9555 Seminole Blvd, Suite 101, Seminole, FL 33772. From downtown Clearwater or the Morton Plant area, the drive is typically about 15 minutes depending on traffic.

Why Clearwater Patients Drive to AMI in Seminole

Hospital imaging can be expensive because the bill may include a hospital facility fee in addition to the radiology interpretation. Morton Plant Hospital is an important local hospital, but hospital-based radiology pricing is often much higher than an independent outpatient imaging center. For many self-pay studies, AMI pricing is up to about 75% less than typical hospital rates.

The route is straightforward. From downtown Clearwater, the Gulf-to-Bay corridor, or the Morton Plant area, most patients head south toward US-19 S, continue toward Park Blvd, then come west to Seminole Blvd. Depending on the exact starting point, you may also use Belcher Road south before cutting over toward Seminole Blvd. From Clearwater Beach or Sand Key, the Belleair Causeway and Gulf Blvd routes are often the cleanest way to reach Seminole without going through a hospital campus.

The other practical difference is the arrival experience. AMI has free, ground-level parking. You do not have to circle a hospital parking deck, remember which level you parked on, or walk through a large medical campus before checking in.

Self-Pay MRI Cost Near Clearwater

AMI offers transparent self-pay pricing for patients with high deductibles, no insurance, or insurance plans where the cash price is simply the better option. Standard MRI starts at $295, 3T MRI starts at $399, and Whole-Body MRI is $1,499.

By comparison, hospital-based radiology charges for MRI are commonly in the $1,500-$3,000 range, sometimes more depending on the body part, contrast, and facility fee structure. That gap matters for Clearwater families with high-deductible plans who may be paying most of the bill out of pocket anyway.

MRI is commonly ordered for back pain, neck pain, brain symptoms, knee injuries, shoulder injuries, abdominal or pelvic concerns, and follow-up after abnormal prior imaging. If you are not sure whether AMI performs the exact MRI your physician ordered, call before scheduling and the team can confirm.

CT Scan, Mammogram & Other Imaging Near Clearwater

MRI is not the only study where outpatient pricing makes a difference. AMI offers CT scan from $295, 3D mammography from $195, X-Ray from $50, and DEXA from $75.

Same-day CT and X-Ray are typically available, especially when your doctor's office sends the order early in the day. CT is often used for abdominal pain, kidney stones, sinus problems, chest concerns, lung screening, and follow-up of prior findings. Digital X-Ray is commonly used for chest imaging, suspected fractures, arthritis, and post-operative follow-up.

For screening mammograms, AMI uses 3D mammography and keeps the visit simple: easy check-in, a short exam, and results sent to your physician. Annual screening mammograms usually do not require a referral, but diagnostic breast imaging does.

Insurance Accepted — No Need to Stay In-Network at a Hospital

Many Clearwater patients assume that if their doctor is connected to a hospital, their imaging has to be done there too. In most cases, that is not true. AMI accepts most major insurance plans in-network, and you can review coverage details on the insurance page.

For insurance patients, a physician order is generally required for MRI, CT, ultrasound, diagnostic mammography, and other medically ordered exams. The AMI team can help confirm benefits and authorization requirements before your appointment.

For self-pay patients, some services do not require a referral. If you are paying cash for MRI and want to understand your options, see No-Referral MRI or call to confirm whether your specific exam qualifies.
