Comfortable, Open MRI Imaging
Our Open MRI is designed for patients who experience anxiety in enclosed spaces or have larger body types. The spacious, open design provides a calm, comfortable experience while still delivering high-quality diagnostic images.
What Is an Open MRI?
An Open MRI uses the same magnetic resonance technology as a traditional closed MRI but features an open design on the sides. Instead of a narrow tunnel, you lie on a table with open space around you. This makes it ideal for patients who feel claustrophobic in traditional MRI machines, children who need a parent nearby, and patients with larger body types. While the magnetic field strength may differ from high-field systems, our Open MRI produces excellent diagnostic images for a wide range of conditions.
What Can Open MRI Diagnose?
- Brain and neurological conditions
- Spine injuries and disc problems
- Joint injuries (shoulder, knee, ankle)
- Soft tissue evaluation
- Musculoskeletal disorders
- Abdominal organ assessment

Frequently Asked Questions
For most diagnostic needs, yes. Our Open MRI produces high-quality images suitable for evaluating brain, spine, joints, and soft tissues. For certain specialized exams requiring the highest magnetic field strength, your doctor may recommend our High-Field 1.5T MRI instead.
Absolutely — that's exactly what our Open MRI is designed for. The open sides mean you're never enclosed in a tunnel. Many patients who couldn't tolerate a traditional MRI are completely comfortable in our Open MRI.
Yes! A friend or family member can sit with you in the MRI room during your scan (as long as they have no metal implants or devices). This is especially helpful for children and anxious patients.
Most Open MRI exams take between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the body part being scanned and whether contrast is needed.
In most cases, a physician's order is required. Contact our office at (727) 398-5999 and we'll help you determine what's needed.
