What to Expect at Your First Visit to AMI

Before You Arrive
When You Schedule Our team will: - Verify your insurance benefits and check if pre-authorization is needed - Provide preparation instructions specific to your exam (fasting, hydration, medication adjustments) - Answer any questions about the process - Offer same-day or next-day appointments when available
What to Bring - Photo ID (driver license or state ID) - Insurance card (front and back) - Doctor referral or prescription for the imaging exam - List of current medications - Prior imaging CDs or reports (if done at another facility) - Copay or payment (if applicable)
Arrival and Check-In

Meeting Your Technologist
A registered, certified technologist will: - Introduce themselves and explain the exam - Review your medical history and the reason for the exam - Ask about allergies, implants, pacemakers, or pregnancy (depending on the exam) - Answer any questions you have - Help you change into a gown if needed (for MRI, mammography, and some CT exams)
During Your Exam
The experience varies by exam type:

DEXA Scan (10-15 minutes) - You lie on an open table (no tunnel or enclosed space) - A small arm passes over your body measuring bone density - Completely painless with minimal radiation - Learn more about DEXA at AMI
After Your Exam
Once the scan is complete: - You can change back into your regular clothes - If contrast was used, drink extra water for the rest of the day - There are no restrictions on driving, eating, or returning to work (unless sedation was used) - Results are sent to your doctor within 24 to 48 hours
Getting Your Results
Our board-certified radiologists review every image carefully and produce a detailed report. The report is sent directly to your ordering physician, who will discuss the findings with you.
